FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do I handle a worker's compensation claim?

All University of Georgia employees are covered by state Workers' Compensation laws, which may provide medical and income benefits if you are injured on the job. Workers' Compensation also provides benefits to your dependents if you die as the result of a job-related illness or injury.

Enrollment
Employees are automatically covered under this program at no cost to the employee. No action is required on your part to enroll.

Procedures to follow:

Note:
If the employee receives a check from UGA, you must file for worker's compensation through UGA, not your county.

If an employee suffers an injury while performing their job duties, you should immediately report the injury to your supervisor. You and your employee must complete a "First Report of Injury" form and submit it to the Employee Benefits Department within five days of the injury. If medical attention is needed, they must seek treatment from a physician listed on the panel of physicians poster located in each UGA department. In the case of an emergency, they should seek treatment from the nearest hospital emergency room.

bullet Why can't dental insurance be dropped anytime?

Dental insurance premiums are tax-exempt. IRS regulations do not allow coverage change unless there is a qualified change in family circumstances.
