The "Synopsis of Models for Improving Extension Program Delivery" document states:

"Almost all of the modeling groups called for the implementation of the Extension marketing plan currently underdevelopment. In particular, the groups highlighted the need for a "united" or "unified" identity or image for Extension that would encompass variations based on county and community needs. The groups also called for a more formal, research-based and systematic market assessment of potential of new programs and activities that would include proven techniques of surveys, focus groups and mass media."

A new University of Georgia Extension Marketing Plan is complete. Programs and product development are underway. The Office of Communications Marketing Committee will preview the plan for State Staff during State Program Planning Week in September. Training for county faculty will begin during District Plan of Work kickoffs in Fall, 2005. We will follow county faculty training with district training for secretaries and in-depth subject training in January at the statewide conference.

We are currently seeking funding to conduct statewide market research to benchmark where we are with the public before the marketing plan begins. We hope to repeat the sampling every 12 to 18 months through the duration of the marketing plan.

A few of the items included in the Extension Marketing Plan are:

  • a new identity policy and logo
  • guidelines for newsletters and brochures
  • templates for county Extension web pages
  • samples of new printed materials available for ordering.
In addition, a newly designed set of Extension exhibits will be available for counties to use through the district offices or for purchase by the county.

Plans are underway to develop a statewide marketing advisory committee that will evaluate the progress of the plan and another committee will serve as the jury to nominate banner programs. Banner programs will be subject-specific, package programs from which agents can pick and choose for presentation. If you are interested in serving on the marketing advisory committee or the banner program nomination committee, please contact your district head.
