Epsilon Sigma Phi – Alpha Beta Chapter
University of Georgia Cooperative Extension
The Alpha Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi has had a busy year. At our Annual Meeting in August 2007 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center, our theme was “Working Together for a Better Georgia.” The highlights of the conference included a workshop presented by Sharon Gibson, Multi-Cultural Extension Specialist State Coordinator Children, Youth, and Families at Risk (CYFAR) Project, and the special guest for the Friday morning session was Dr. Pratt Cassity, Director of the Center for Community Design and Preservation in the School of Environmental Design. Since CEA’s are now required to build upon their Dossiers, our sessions consisted of working across the Public Service College to better collaborate with one another. At the silent auction over $800 was raised for scholarships and the Dr. Beverly Sparks, Associate Dean of Extension was the key note speaker.
In September, ESP members, Connie Page and Grace Garnier attended the National Epsilon Sigma Phi Conference in Charleston, SC. Mr. Jerry Griffin, Director, Association County Commissioners of Georgia was presented the National Friend of Extension Award in Charleston, SC. This was a great honor for Georgia to be recognized at the National level for such a distinguished presentation. Also, in October, I had the opportunity to announce this award to his peers at the ACCG Annual Meeting in Atlanta and in January at Winter School at Rock Eagle to the entire Extension personnel.
Your help is needed to raise funds to support Alpha Beta Chapter-Georgia’s recognition on the National Level. More information about the ESP Development Fund Campaign can be found at http://espnational.org.
This year, our annual meeting will be August 21 and 22 at Rock Eagle. Information will be sent to you in early June for registration. We have over 130 active members and over 125 Life Members. The National meeting will be in Indianapolis, IN in September 2008. For more information, please go to our website at http://extension.caes.uga.edu/esp
