Use the following general format for all awards
except those with an asterisk, (*see directions below general
format). The document for all awards should be completed on
the front and back of one (8 1/2 x 11) sheet with minimum font
of 10 . Send five copies. Include the following:
A. Applicant's information:
- Name of award
- Full name, title, current address, city, county email address,
phone, fax
- Educational background (dates and degrees)
- Employment listing, titles and dates, most recent first
B. Professional Accomplishments:
- Achievements and honors, presentations, leadership positions,
media, committee service, university and community service, etc.
C. Program Accomplishments:
- Evidence of the applicant's outstanding programming and service
D. Summary Statement of Support:
ESP Team Award:
A. Name of award
B. State and chapter, title of program, names and staff
title of team members
C. Name of chapter member completing the application
including address, city, county,
e-mail, phone, fax
D. Narrative summary that clearly explains the role the
team's program has played in
preparing people or communities to address issues or
concerns.
- The national initiative addressed
- Resources involved: team members, volunteers, agencies/collaborators
and funds, supplies or equipment utilized
- Methods used: innovative problem solving, educational delivery
methods
- Results: who benefited, impacts, implications for future programs
Meritorious Support Service Award
The award recognizes an employee in a support service
role for significant contributions to Extension effectiveness.
All classified positions including secretaries, program assistants,
etc. are eligible. District personnel are included in the State
Staff region.
The application should be completed on the front and back
of one 8 ½ x 11 sheet using a minimum 10 font. Send five
copies. Include the following :
A. (On the front page):
- Name and title
- Address, city, county, district
- Phone, fax, email address
- Years of service
- Name and title of person completing form
B. (On the back page in narrative form):
- Describe how the nominee has excelled in providing support
for the mission, program and professional staff of the Cooperative
Extension Service
C. Summary statement of support - Maximum of 75 words
Retiree Service Award
Recognition for continuing contributions and outstanding service
to the Extension Service, must be a life member of ESP. The application
should be completed on the front and back of one 8 ½ x
11 sheet using a minimum font of 10. Send five copies. Include
the following:
A. (On the front page):
- Name and title at time of retirement
- Address
- Phone and email address
- Years of service
- Years ESP Life Member
B. (On the back page):
- Describe how the nominee has continued to serve the Extension
organization during retirement.
C. Summary Statement of Support - Maximum 75 words

State Scholarships
The following scholarships may be used to support
academic or other professional improvement activities.
- Sid Chandler Memorial Scholarship for Masters of Ag Leadership
students- $500
- (2) ESP Professional Development Fellowships - $500 each
- Tal Duvall Fellowship - $500
National Scholarships
National scholarships applications should be submitted with other
state awards by May 19, 2008. They will be judged on the state
level to be submitted for national judging with state awards by
March 1, 2009 and awarded at national ESP meeting in fall of 2009.
- Richard R. Angus Professional Development Scholarship - $500
(For professional development through courses seminars and workshops)
- Administrative Leadership Award Scholarship - $500 (For a unit
administrator who is a current ESP member to attend the national
ESP conference.
- Life Member / Retiree Member Registration Defrayment reduced
registration fee. (Number of awards and value of defrayment
will vary yearly)

2008 STATE ESP AWARDS PROGRAM
- VISIONARY LEADERSHIP RECOGNITION AWARD For a person whose visionary leadership enabled Extension to anticipate new opportunity and developed support to implement program and organizational changes necessary to achieve success Approval of this award will be rare.
- STATE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD Designed to pay the highest tribute to an experienced Extension professional that has consistently exhibited continuing leadership and excellence in Extension program planning, delivery, and/or administration over a career of 20 or more years.
- MID-CAREER SERVICE AWARD For a 10-20 year professional who has displayed continuing leadership and excellence in program planning, delivery, and evaluation, or in administration.
- EARLY CAREER SERVICE AWARD To recognize the achievements of rising young professionals (5-10 years experience) who have shown noteworthy enthusiasm, performance, and accomplishments in program design and delivery.
- STATE TEAM AWARD Recognizes outstanding efforts on the part of a team of Extension Staff in responding to and incorporating into a specific educational program one or more of the National Initiatives identified by the Cooperative Extension System. At least one team member must be an ESP member. Self nominations are welcome. (One award per state.)
- 25-YEAR TENURE AWARD Recognition for 25 years of professional Extension service. Must be pure Extension Service not including credit given for military or other employment. Self nominations. Must be current ESP member. Send dates of your Extension employment to state awards chair to receive this award.
- RETIREE SERVICE AWARD Recognition for continuing contributions and outstanding service to Extension. Must be a life member of ESP. (One award per state.)
- NEW EXTENSION PROFESSIONAL AWARD Recognition for an outstanding County Extension Agent with less than five years service. A non-ESP member. Detailed input will be requested from each nominee's supervisor. (One per District and a State winner.)
- MERITORIOUS SUPPORT SERVICE AWARD Recognition for an employee in a support role for significant contributions over time to Extension effectiveness. All co-workers in classified positions such as secretaries, program assistants, etc. are eligible. District personnel are included in the State Staff region. (One per district.)
- FRIEND OF EXTENSION AWARD Recognition of a lay (non-Extension) person for outstanding support and personal involvement in Extension efforts.
(These are new awards that have been added by our National ESP Awards Committee. Some of them fit in the same awards categories of our other Extension professional associations. Apply!)
- Administrative Leadership Award Recipients must have shown noteworthy administrative performance during 10+ years of county, regional, state, program department or national level leadership.
- Diversity (One team award and one individual award) May be presented to one team and one individual whose innovative programming reinforces the organization's commitment to reaching diverse audiences. The team must include at least 50% ESP members. The program must have been implemented in the last three years.
- Distinguished International Service Award Recipients must have made significant contributions to international programs.
- Continued Excellence Award Recognizes an experienced Extension professional with 20+ years who has exhibited continued leadership, initiative and excellence in the Extension program or administration, on a chapter/regional/national level. Members are eligible for nomination five years after receiving the chapter DSA Recognition.
Member Scholarships (Deadlines Vary)
- (National) Richard R. Angus Professional Development Scholarship - $500 scholarship to encourage, stimulate and support professional development through participation in courses, seminars or workshops. Must be current, dues paid ESP member.
- (National) Administrative Leadership Award - $500 scholarship for unit administrator who is a current ESP member to attend the national ESP conference. Must be a first timer.
- (National) Life/Retiree Member Registration Defrayment ESP Life and Retiree members attending the National ESP Conference are eligible for a reduced registration fee. Number and value of reduction will vary yearly.
- (State) ESP Professional Improvement Fellowships (2) and Tal Duvall Fellowship (1) A total of three $500 fellowships may be awarded to support academic or other professional improvement activities any program area. Applicants will submit an application after nomination.
- (State) Sid Chandler Memorial Scholarship (1) For an outstanding Extension employee pursuing a Masters of Agriculture Leadership degree. Applicants enrolled in this program will submit an application after nomination
