CarFit is a national program developed through collaboration among AAA, the American Society on Aging, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Using CarFit, GTIPI will help Georgia seniors find out how the effects of aging change the way they fit in their vehicles and how that can affect their driving.

CarFit is designed to give senior drivers a quick, comprehensive check on correct safety belt positioning, distance from airbags, and how well their vehicles suit their abilities. It's FAST, FUN, and FREE!

The number of seniors in Georgia is growing rapidly. People over 65 are the fastest-growing population segment in the U.S. By 2030, one in five drivers will be age 65 or older, which means there will be more than 30 million older drivers on U.S. roads. In May 2006, GTIPI began CarFit in Georgia , the first program of its kind for senior drivers in the state. GTIPI’s goal is to keep seniors driving safely for as long as possible.

To become a Technician or Event Coordinator you must attend a certification training. CarFit orientation programs are intended for professionals who would like to learn about the CarFit materials and are interested in presenting CarFit programs for the community. Professionals are expected to use the information they receive to offer a minimum of two programs in their community.

CarFit Technicians are able to participate in CarFit events hosted by a CarFit Event Coordinator. A half-day training teaches you the three parts of each CarFit event: Check-in, Check-up and Check-out.

Event Coordinators are trained to host CarFit events following proper programmatic procedures. Event Coordinators are able to train CarFit technicians, secure dates and locations for CarFit events, participate in and monitor CarFit events and communicate with the national organizations, AAA, AARP and AOTA.
