Course description:
This training program is designed to provide the participants with the necessary knowledge and technical skill to enable them to become a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. CPSTs perform as a child passenger safety resource person for their community, department or organization. Topics covered in this college-level course include basics of injury prevention, federal role and safety standards, crash dynamics, vehicle occupant protections systems, types of child restraints, selecting and securing children in child restraints, correct installation of child restraints, misuse and compatibility issues, safety in other vehicles and organizing and coordinating a child safety seat check event.

Training credits are available for the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program. This course is P.O.S.T. credit eligible for Law Enforcement personnel upon successful completion. Licensed EMTs are elgible to receive 8 training hours through the Georgia Office of Emergency Medical Services upon successful completion.

Before earning the two-year national certification, a passing grade of 84% must be achieved on three quizzes (a total of 50 questions), as well as successful completion of three hands-on skills evaluations. This course is offered in a 4-day and accelerated 3-day format. For the accelerated course, priority seating will be given to law enforcement, public safety, and medical professionals.

Follow the steps to Register and create a new user profile. Then, Login to your profile.

2. Click "Find/Register for a Course" on the right-hand tab set.

3. Enter the appropriate Course ID and information in the Course Search window. TO VIEW GTIPI'S COURSES YOU MUST CHECK THE BOX , "Also show invitation only/controlled courses" BEFORE SEARCHING.

4. The system will allow anyone to reserve a seat. At this stage, your seat in the course is not guaranteed. The Lead Instructor must approve your request to proceed. Once you receive email notification of instructor approval you MUST complete the registration process online and pay the appropriate course fee to Safe Kids WorldWide

5. Payment of your certification fee must be received by Safe Kids WorldWide at least ten days prior to the start date of the course in order to complete the registration process and secure your seat. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. GTIPI does not collect or receive any fees for courses.

PLEASE NOTE: Additional fees may be required by Safe Kids WorldWide for registration fees paid within ten (10) days of the course start date.

CPST Certification Renewal Course

The 8-hour National CPS Training Certification Renewal Course is a way for expired CPSTs to become certified again. In order to be eligible for the course offered by GTIPI, the student must have a CPS profile with a certification status of EXPIRED. This course is meant for expired CPS Technicians who have maintained their child passenger safety knowledge and their hands-on skills to renew their certification.

Eligibility:
0-90 days - CPSTs who contact GTIPI within 90 days of expiration are automatically eligible.

91-180 days - CPSTs who are expired longer than 90 days, but less than six months, should contact GTIPI to apply. Applicants should provide written details as to why the renewal course is the best option.

180+ days - GTIPI encourages CPSTs who are expired more than 180 days to re-take the national certification course.

Important Note: The Renewal Course does NOT serve as an update/refresher class. Registrants begin testing upon arrival for this course. A score of 84% on the written test is required. Two attempts are allowed to successfully complete all seven technical skills scenarios.

CPST CEU Workshop (for currently certified technicians)

GTIPI's CPST CEU Workshop is designed to assist Georgia CPSTs in maintaining their two-year national certification. Completion of this CEU Workshop will allow techs to earn the six (6) technical Continuing Education Units (CEUs) required to re-certify. The workshop is designed to improve CPS knowledge through technical updates and meets all requirements established by the National CPS Board and Safe Kids Worldwide. Each CPST completing the workshop will receive a certificate of attendance as documentation for re-certification. You must be a currently certified CPST to attend this course.

Riding Safely in Child Care

How do your children reach you every day? Are they being transported safely?

Riding Safely in Child Care was developed in Georgia specifically to increase awareness of the need for child care providers to transport children using current best practice recommendations. This two hour training addresses the following: Georgia law, crash dynamics, types of seats, gross misuse, liability issues, and resources available in local regions.
